OKC!
Is this our year?
Admittedly, I started writing this up while we were in the WCF, and that series largely went to plan. Now I just got back home from attending Game 1 of the 2025 NBA Finals.
I've never been to the Finals before, and it was a really good time. The atmosphere was great, arena was going wild, and our team is awesome. There was about .3 seconds of the game that I really didn't enjoy so much, and I'm thinking those were the most important seconds to be holding on to a lead. Halliburton really sat us all down, it was something else. I mean I was gutted, miserable, heartbroken. But what an awesome team the Pacers are and what a magical, unbelievable, terrible run they are on.
I think it's still hard not to be confident in this Thunder squad. I've said this at a lot of times during the season, but I expect we still have at least a 50/50 shot at a title right now. Worse odds than if Halliburton misses that game winner, but Halliburton doesn't miss game winners. But still 50/50 is about as good as any fan can hope for, and if you told me at the start of the season that on June 8th, we'd have a 50/50 shot, I'd have taken it no questions asked, and no complaints.
Now, the Pacers have that same proposition, and they can really put us on the ropes tonight. They really are incredible, and I'm stunned that everyone has been so confident that the Pacers were going to get rolled in the Finals. They are a great team, they've been on a great run, including the last like 30 games of the regular season, they continue to shoot really well, and they never say die. Seriously, they're zombies, you have to beat them, then you have to kill them, then you have to separate their head from their body and burn both separately. They are just never so far gone that they can't get back. I thought what they were doing was awesome, until they started doing it to my team.
All that said, we've got an awesome defense, and a(nother) MVP, just gotta win 4 more games to top off an incredible year.
